Transparent Office Products Installs Solar

Transparent Office Products of Pennsauken, NJ installs 150kw Solar PV System.

For the last years 36 sustainability has been at the core of business for Transparent Office Products, a Pennsauken, NJ based manufacturer of archive safe document protectors. Servicing clients like, The Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institute and Museums across the USA, keeping some of our nation’s most cherished historical possessions safe from harm and deterioration. Now the company takes that same approach to their own manufacturing facility and their environmental footprint.

In late May the company contracted Array Sunsystems, also of Pennsauken, to procure, design , and install a 150KW Solar PV system on the roof of their Haddonfield Rd headquarters. The parent company Gera- foliegn of Germany, has incorporated solar on its European facilities over the past decade, and is doing so in North America now as well. Transparent’s North American Operations Director Rick Brown had this to say about the project “ Being a German company, we had prior experience with solar and have been looking into this in New Jersey for a while now. We just needed to find the right company to work with, the benefits of doing the project are undeniable.”

As to why the company chose Array Sunsystems, Brown added “ We knew enough to know who was being honest, and Array was the only company that was. Add to that the fact that they are local and had jobs we could walk right on and inspect, and the decision was easy.”

The project will offset close to 80 percent of the electric bill at the plant. Once Federal tax incentives are considered, the return on investment for Transparent will be under 5 years. When asked about the solar market in NJ , its rapid growth, and future, Array Sunsystems President John Gottschall said “ Projects like this one at Transparent, are really the core of the solar future in NJ. We have so much talk about enormous solar farm projects and people trying to revise wetland and forest regulations for solar use. Those projects get debated forever, and always end up still on the conference room table. Every building in this state has a roof. Many are ideal for solar. For a NJ business the return on investment is usually under five years. What else could you ask for?”

When asked about his view of the ever changing New Jersey Solar Market , Gottschall responded” The incentives have worked. The technology has come down so far in price, just since we’ve been in business, that people are paying less now for solar than ever before. “

Can I just buy the equipment and install it myself?

This is not a DIY project and we do not recommend ordering any products without first having a consultation by a qualified professional. Your Federal Solar Energy incentives, your New Jersey Solar Renewable Energy Credits SRECS and any Modified Accelerated Depreciation for Solar Products, are all dependent upon passing many inspections that require experience and a thorough knowledge of NJ Clean Energy Incentive Program policies and procedures. At Array Sunsystems, our relationships with the manufacturers of our system components prevent us from selling products to other installers or end users as they want to make sure their products are only installed by Array Sunsystems.

What kind of service does my PV Solar Electric System need?

Solar systems contain almost no moving parts and require little to no maintenance. We recommend one cleaning per year after pollen season. A typical window washing squeegee is the best thing to use to clean the tempered glass facing of your modules. No abrasive cleaning solutions should be used. The other major components of your system will need some monitoring and routine maintenance. Your contract with Array includes training on maintenance and monitoring. Array Sunsystems Solar Operation and Management service can also be purchased for a small annual fee on an ongoing basis.

When and how do I get paid for my SRECs?

At Array Sunsystems we are independent of any specific SREC arrangements. We have maintained this neutrality in order to better serve our client base on an objective level. We have relationships with Aggregators and brokers of SRECS, and will assist you in selling your SRECS in the fashion that best suits your needs. In most cases your SRECS are sold monthly and you are paid monthly via direct deposit or check. You may also be in a position to take out a post construction Utility company loan depending upon your provider. In this scenario your SRECS would go directly towards repayment of the same loan.

How do I know if my house is right for solar?

A certified installer will be able to perform a site survey taking into consideration roof shape and size, exposure to the sun, and shading issues. In many cases you can get a good idea of how good a candidate your home is by giving us a call. We can view your home using Google Earth, and with some input from you, can make a pretty accurate determination on system size and expected energy production. We still need to visit the property to view the existing electrical system and existing roofing materials and supports, before giving you a final price.

Will my system work on cloudy days?

Yes. Your Solar Electric system will still generate power on cloudy days. Obviously less cloud cover means more light so you will certainly produce more power on sunny days, but the important thing to remember is that the solar industry takes cloud cover and regional weather conditions into consideration when estimating the production of your system, which is based on an annual average peak sunlight for your location on planet Earth!

How much does it cost?

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Electric systems are generally priced on a per watt installed basis. Price is determined by product quality and installation time required. Most residential systems cost between around 5 dollars per watt installed, while commercial systems are between 3 and 4.5 dollars per watt, depending on size. What makes one Solar panel better than another?

There are many factors that need to be considered when purchasing a solar array and panel quality is very important. The construction, efficiency, warranty and serviceability should be major considerations when purchasing. At Array Sunsystems we use only panels that have been manufactured with the highest grade of raw materials. You will be using your array for a long time. Quality counts!

The overwhelming factor the industry uses as a guideline is efficiency. But how long is the guaranteed efficiency and what percentage is guaranteed? How are the panels made? The most important factor in ANY piece of equipment that lives outdoors is it’s ability to withstand the elements. When looking at system reliability, you have to consider not only panel quality, but inverter efficiency, and quality of the installers.

At Array Sunsystems you can schedule a time to visit one of our installations to get an idea of the kind of quality we provide.
